New research facility for University of Strathclyde

Overview

The University of Strathclyde will soon open its doors to a purpose built £25m world class research facility that will focus on supporting fundamental and applied research into forming and forging - an industry that is currently estimated to be worth £2.1bn.

Although the university has had 25 years experience in this sector the creation of this new AFRC (Advanced Forming Research Centre) will see a partnership between different facets of the university and global industrial manufacturing companies. All parties will share the same objective - to make the UK’s engineering sector even more competitive by helping the industry to deliver advanced products to the market in a more timely and cost effective manner.

This new centre set out its ambitions to be at the vanguard early on by requesting that each aspect of the internal infrastructure, including the M+E solution, was as efficient as possible. To support this ambition Grundfos Pumps Ltd worked with DMP Consulting of Glasgow and ROK Plumbing Heating & Electrical of Inverness to ensure that the pump solution incorporated the most advanced technology as befits such a innovative new facility.

Being able to provide a complete solution to all the pumping needs is one of Grundfos’ strengths and ensuring that the various elements of the solution will work together harmoniously offers that extra level of assurance. Providing the support to this solution are a range of energy efficient twin-head Grundfos TPED single stage centrifugal pumps and MAGNA UPED canned rotor circulation pumps, the Hydro MPC-E booster set will ensure that there is always water to meet demand, a pair of IMpress Advanced twin pressurisation units and a range of ancillary equipment completed the delivery of the pumping demands of the project.

There are similarities between the development of centres like this and Grundfos Pumps, both understand the need to continue to push the R&D boundaries to maintain a leading edge.
